Hi, I'm Kristin!

I'm Kristin Jensen: a classical singer, voice coach, life coach, mom, and gardener, offering voice lessons in Salt Lake City and online.

My credentials:

I've been studying classical voice since I was 15, and hold a BM in Voice Performance from Florida State University, and a MM in voice. I continue to hone my craft with Darrell Babidge, the head of faculty at Juilliard.

Classical technique is my wheelhouse. I've also studied CCM pedagogy (for Music Theater and contemporary styles) with Emily Castleton, and trained for two years in the Meisner acting technique with Suzanne Esper at the William Esper Studio in NYC.

I have been singing professionally since 2002. I've worked professionally in opera and music theater, and as a concert artist, recitalist, and a church musician. I've sung on stages from California, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New York City, Vienna, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Jakarta, Indonesia. I also busked through Europe for fun in the fall of 2014.

What I Offer You as a Voice Coach:

I've been teaching since 2002, and I'm excellent at breaking complex technical concepts down into easy, bite-sized pieces, so you always feel confident and clear about what you're doing and why. I offer technique, musicality, and legit acting, so you can offer the most prepared, powerful auditions and performances. I 'm exceptionally skilled at getting singers into their most beautiful, powerful, grounded sound.

The Special Sauce:

I'm also a life coach with training in somatic nervous system regulation, and I facilitate primal voice expression for the big emotions that can surface when you start opening up your voice. When you start singing, a lot can come up, and I know how to hold that space with care.

Together, these come together as the Dragon Rose Vocal Method: technique that empowers you, safety that holds you, and a voice that transforms you.

Where We Work:

I offer lessons at my home in Millcreek, near Salt Lake City, Utah, and online voice lessons for singers across the country and in Europe.

It is an honor to be your guide in bringing your voice to life. I'm here to support you in developing your most powerful, beautiful, authentic voice.

I believe in you, and I believe in your voice.

HEAR IT FROM SATISFIED CLIENTS

SOME kind WORDS

Working with Kristin completely transformed my sound. My voice now has much more body, fuller with way more richness and overtones. But beyond the dramatic vocal improvement, the internal growth has been profound. I went from truly not liking my voice to falling in love with my sound and what is uniquely mine.

Kristin's holistic and compassionate approach understands that singing is more than just singing. I feel so seen and understood as a person. I'm a working singer now at 27, performing at an A-level house - something I could have never pictured in a million years. I've gone from being a nervous wreck at auditions to feeling a sense of calm confidence. Kristin is a rare gem in this industry.

Alexandra watson, georgia

The idea of singing in front of other people was terrifying to me. Working with Kristin, I grew in my willingness to take risks and sing in front of other people. It's already had a ripple effect - when I sang for a group of clients while feeling scared, I inspired one of them to take a big risk into the unknown.

My voice really opened up, like a literal singing "channel" was created. And, I had recorded several episodes of a new podcast and sat o it for a year, stuck in perfectionism. My work with Kristin gave me the permission to get my podcast out into the world in a way that felt organic and good to me. Kristin is such a gifted teacher and mentor!

There is a different resonance in my voice than how I sounded a couple years ago. I feel more familiar to myself - this is how I've always known I could sound.

Before singing lessons, I was "driving" accidentally. Now I have techniques that have given me the keys to my own car. It's hugely empowering. It's about trusting myself. I'm entitled to say what I'm going to say. It's appropriate for me to expect other people to listen to my voice. I feel different about myself.

Sound Familiar?

"I grew up being told I couldn't sing" - One person's opinion long ago doesn't get the final word on your voice. Most of what people call "can't sing" is actually "was never taught."

"I missed my window." - There isn't one! Your voice and your nervous system are still capable of learning and opening, at any age.

"It's too self-indulgent to start now." - Coming back to your voice isn't indulgent. It's actually a profound act of self-care and reclamation.

"I'm not talented enough for bigger roles." - Getting cast more often is rarely about raw talent. It's about walking in with technique, presence, and your acting finely tuned. That's trainable.

"I always freeze up in the room." - Audition freeze isn't a character flaw, it's a nervous system response. We work on and practice techniques that help you regulate in real time so you can use the adrenaline as an asset in your auditions.

"I have the training, I shouldn't be struggling" - Degrees and technique don't fix a disconnect between your body and your instrument. You need somatic skills.

"I'm a nervous wreck at auditions even though I'm prepared." - Preparation and nervous system regulation are two different skills. Most singers only ever get taught the first one.

FAQ

Is this right for you?

Who is this for?

This studio is for adult singers who are looking to learn the art and craft of singing in a safe, supportive environment with a highly-skiled and attuned teacher. My students are frequently community theater performers preparing for auditions and roles, adults (often women in midlife) who are reconnecting with a voice they set aside, and emerging or professional classical singers looking for the technical and performance edge that gets them cast.

I haven't sung in years, or ever. Can I actually improve?

Yes! Nearly everyone can learn to sing and improve their sound. This isn't about raw talent, it's about the right technique and the right support. Many of the people I work with haven't sung since high school choir. That gap doesn't disqualify you. It's usually exactly why you're here.

Am I too old to start or restart?

No! Your voice and your nervous system keep learning at any age. I've worked with singers in their 40s-80s who are having their biggest breakthroughs. You've lived a life. That informs your singing 100%.

What if I get emotional during a lesson?

That's welcome here. Singing can open things up: sometimes memories, sometimes old stories about not being "good enough" to use your voice. I'm trained in somatic and nervous system work specifically so that whatever surfaces gets met with care, not rushed past.

What will happen, and how fast?

What happens in the free consultation?

It's a 25-minute phone conversation. No singing, no pressure. We talk about your voice, your story, and what you're hoping for. I'll ask questions, you'll get a feel for how I work, and together we'll figure out if we're a good fit. If we are, we'll set up your first paid lesson, where the technical work begins.

How quickly will I notice a difference?

Most singers hear and feel a shift within their first few lessons, and often in the first intro lesson: more body in the sound, more grounding, more range. The deeper transformation, that changes how you feel about and experience your own voice, tends to build over your first several weeks together. The first "aha" moments usually happen pretty quickly.

Do you help with specific auditions or roles?

Yes. Many singers come to me with a specific audition, callback, or role in mind. We work directly on your material, be it song cuts, monologues, the whole package. I teach you Meisner-based acting technique alongside vocal technique, so you get hyper-specific, effective guidance that will give you the best possible edge.

If I want to continue?

I've done lessons before and they didn't stick. Why would this be different?

Most singing lessons teach technique and stop there. This studio works at the level of technique AND the nervous system patterns underneath it. A lot of "stuck" voices aren't a technique problem, they're related to your nervous system being activated. We work with your voice as an instrument AND as an extension of you as a human being.

What does ongoing work look like?

This isn't a one-off lesson model. Singers generally take 2–4 lessons per month, and most clients stay with me for years, not weeks. Real vocal transformation is a relationship over time, not a quick fix. The studio offers both pay-in-full and monthly payment plans.

Are lessons online or in person?

Both. In-person lessons are at my home studio in Millcreek, near Salt Lake City. Online lessons happen over Zoom or FaceTime, and I currently work with singers across the US and in Europe.

What's your method and how much do you charge?

What makes this different from a typical voice teacher?

The Dragon Rose Vocal Method combines classical and CCM (contemporary and music theater) vocal techniques, Meisner acting training, life coaching, and somatic/nervous-system coaching in one studio. Technique that empowers you. Safety that holds you. A voice that transforms you. Most teachers give you technique alone. I give you technique, emotional support, and help you attune your nervous system so you can use what you've learned, which is where the deepest changes take place.

What's your teaching philosophy?

I believe nearly anyone can learn to sing and improve their sound, and I believe the human voice has the capacity to create lasting transformation - not just vocally, but in how you carry yourself, and how you use your voice in life. I break technical concepts down into simple, usable pieces, and I have my singers' backs.

How much are lessons?

The package rate for lessons is $80/hour, and $95/hour for one-off drop-in lessons. Singers generally take 2–4 lessons per month on a 6-month basis, with both pay-in-full and payment plan options available. We'll talk specifics at the end of your free consultation once we've had a chance to discuss your needs and goals.

What is the meaning behind

Dragon Rose?

The Fire Dragon is my sign in the Chinese Astrological system. This beautiful, firey creature symbolizes transformation and empowerment. One Chinese legend tells of the Gold Dragon, who began as a carp, swimming upstream against many obstacles, and who eventually leapt across the Gates of Heaven and was transformed by the gods into a Golden Dragon as a reward for its perseverence and determination.

Singing has the capacity to lead one on a path of profound personal growth and transformation, and this journey requires persistence, determination, and lots of grace.

The Rose is a symbol of love and compassion. Her essence is reported to hold the highest frequency of plant life on Earth.

The Rose is a significant symbol to me on my spiritual path.

My intention with the Dragon Rose Voice Studio is to witness each singer as worthy and sovereign, and to guide them with love along the journey to greater self-awareness, compassion, and self-expression through the medium of singing.
